AI in Apprenticeship Mentoring project

The AI in Apprenticeship Mentoring project harnesses the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform work-based learning (WBL) within vocational education and training (VET) systems across Europe. In partnership with organizations in Bulgaria, Spain, and Belgium, the project will develop a comprehensive AI-based mentoring framework designed to upskill WBL mentors, preparing them to guide apprentices through the evolving landscape of Industry 4.0. By equipping mentors with essential AI tools and digital competencies, we aim to reduce skills mismatches, bridge gaps in workforce readiness, and advance the capacity of the VET sector to meet labor market demands.

The project envisions a future where VET mentors are empowered with cutting-edge AI tools and methods, enabling them to provide high-quality, tech-enhanced mentorship. This will not only support apprentices’ development of essential digital skills but also align their education with modern labor market needs, reducing barriers to employment and facilitating smoother transitions from education to the workforce.

By embedding AI into the WBL mentoring framework, this initiative aims to set a new standard for apprenticeship guidance. The project’s resources, training materials, and developed networks will lay the groundwork for scalable, impactful mentoring practices that can be adopted across Europe, supporting the growth of a digitally skilled workforce for years to come.

Objectives

Develop an Integrated AI in Mentoring Framework: The project aims to introduce an AI-powered framework into work-based learning (WBL) mentoring. This framework will empower mentors and apprentices by enhancing digital skills, promoting growth mindset, and preparing them for the demands of Industry 4.0.

Create a comprehensive AI in Mentoring Training Programme: This objective involves designing and implementing a training program for WBL mentors, focusing on two primary areas: AI Literacy and AI Mentoring. Through this, mentors will gain essential skills to incorporate AI tools in their guidance practices, benefiting both their professional growth and apprentice skill development.

The project will recruit and train national teams of trainers who will deliver the AI in Mentoring program across partner countries. This will foster a community of AI-skilled mentors and prepare them to integrate AI insights effectively in their work with apprentices.

The program will be piloted with 60 WBL mentors across Bulgaria, Spain, and Belgium. This phase will assess the practical impact of AI literacy and mentoring on apprentices’ skill development and mentors’ teaching capabilities. The gamification will provide a unique and memorable experiential learning environment, in which students will develop entrepreneurship knowledge and entrepreneurial skills and mindset at the same time.

To ensure long-term impact, the project will disseminate findings, conduct an international gathering, and establish a resource library. These activities will engage stakeholders and facilitate the adoption of the AI in Mentoring framework on a national scale, multiplying its benefits within the vocational education and training sector.
